Concern off-topic
Although in earnings teachings and spiritual knowledge capable of bringing in the understanding of thought and Person of God, the human heart does not change. Proof is in the episode recounted here, where, when Jesus is preparing to live, suffer the humiliation that will lead to the cross, the only question that seems to preoccupy the disciples is who among them can be regarded as the greatest. This concern is all the more surprising that a few moments ago, the disciples wondered and watched each other to discern who among them could be the traitor who would deliver the master to his judges. The human heart is not a contradiction. It is so unreliable that a sentence to another, it can show two entirely opposite attitudes, without it bothers him at all. Without the Holy Spirit, the heart of man, Scripture says, is tortuous and incurable Jer 17.9 . Only under his direction our lives can actually find unity and coherence.
Since this is the concern of the disciples, Jesus, instead of sentencing, will respond. There are two ways to take action on concerns in the lives of displaced children of God: either the snub, which serves no purpose, either by converting their bad bounce on reflection beneficial lesson for the future. It happens that Jesus rebuffed, but he will always follow the reproach of a didactic manner. Learn from him!

If the disciples want to compete against each other, not upwards, but downwards they should look. The biggest among them is one who can to exercise the utmost humility: humility, not a feint, but the outcome of a just self-knowledge combined with experience of grace which seeth in service to others a great opportunity to practice the love reply Free to love from God. Is great one who loved God responds by serving others with love!
The disciples are concerned about the weight of personal glory, which rests on everyone, Jesus will also respond. Already in the past, Jesus had addressed this topic: Luke 18.28-30, suggesting they did not have to worry about it, God can not be ungrateful to those who demonstrate by their actions their commitment to His Person. He confirmed here again. What the disciples did not care about the glory reserved for them! It will be the same for everyone! They are all sitting at the table with Him in His kingdom. With him, they will sit on thrones as judges of the twelve tribes of Israel!
With the first on the question of greatness, we must also hear this teaching on the glory. Because, too often, it inhabits thought of the servants of God who, like the disciples, engage in a game of comparison and competition harmful. God looks neither to the power of influence we have, or the popularity of our ministry to judge the value. What He wants from us is that we be faithful in service opportunities that He puts before us! For the rest, it is he alone that decisions honorary against us coming back.
