Message In A Christening Card

Chapter 21, Verses 28-36

V 28-36: Preparation:

Contrary to the way in which we act sometimes, it becomes clear that the purpose of revealing Jesus to His disciples what will happen in the future is not to satisfy their curiosity or to awaken in them a taste for speculation. Knowledge of the prophecies related to contemporary and future historical facts which will mark the path of the disciples to His return should result in them two types of attitude:

first attitude : Expectation of redemption marked by the encouragement that communicates the certainty of hope. If the beginning of the fulfillment of the warning signs of the coming glory of the Lord will be an anguish of growing up in the world is the opposite effect that will occur in the heart of the disciples. Like the buds on the fig trees, heralding the arrival of summer near, the beginning of the realization of the signs mentioned by the Lord to the disciples is a message that has value of joy: the long awaited time, the time of issue promised has arrived!

Note that if some signs related to the time of the coming glory of the Lord still belong to the future, it will, according to Jesus' words, less than a generation to happen the capture of Jerusalem by Roman armies led by Titus , conquest leading to the destruction of the temple and the exile of the Jews in all nations of the world. The completion of the sign given by Jesus in the prescribed period shall pledge, as Jesus says here, reliability in achieving all of His words for the future!

second attitude: an attitude of vigilance marked by the discipline of sobriety against the pleasures of the flesh and faith practice with respect to the key concerns of life. Expected to leave this world for the kingdom of God, the Christian is called, unlike Lot's wife to keep her heart as free as possible of any ties that would tie to the land. Vigilance and prayer, as Jesus in Gethsemane recall, are the only slogans that fit: Matthew 26.41.

If at the end of this chapter, we have some doubt and uncertainty about the full identification of the era in which Jesus refers these signs, believe that there is a deliberate attempt to God. God's purpose is clear: He wants at any time we stood ready. For if the Lord's day surprise the world as a thief in the night, so should not be the case with the disciples. The return of Jesus, His coming in glory in His kingdom should be called the expectation conditioned at every moment our behavior. The prospect of Your coming, Lord, be the element that now guides all my actions and my thoughts!
