Assassination of Dubai, Australia Israel warns
Australia warned Thursday that if Israel was involved in the use of three Australian passports by the alleged killers of a framework of Hamas in Dubai, Canberra would consider this act as "unfriendly," said Foreign Minister Stephen Smith.
The Australian foreign minister summoned the Israeli ambassador and asked him to cooperate in the investigation into the use of such passports to Dubai to kill a Hamas figure Mahmoud al-Mabhouh. Dubai police said that the Israeli secret service Mossad perpetrated the murder, and has identified at least 26 suspects have submitted false passports mainly European but also in Australia.
"I very clearly told the ambassador that if the survey results make us conclude that Israeli officials have used or helped misuse of Australian passports, Australia does consider it as a friendly act, "said Stephen Smith told reporters.
He had announced before parliament that the authorities in Dubai had confirmed they were investigating in Canberra on the use of three Australian passports in connection with the murder. The initial findings confirmed that these passports were rebuilt or modified.
"At this stage, the Australian authorities have no evidence that holders of these passports have been involved in one way or another, except as victims Theft of a passport or identity, "said the Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs.
